I have a feeling that the people who entered are not comfortable with just a finish, so if not on a time they are happy with would make excuses to drop. Just a guess, I may be completely off the mark.

I think the looped format increases the drop rate but also WW has a hard 32 hours cut off (8 hours less and 32:01 is a DNF) but only 5 miles shorter and a similar amount of elevation (both 20,000ft). Quite a few of the drops were people timed out (or close to cut offs and slowing down) who would probably have got round with a longer cut off (say 36 hours) |
