Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Thank you for all your replies ... interesting reading. Years ago when I asked my GP whether it was worth taking multivitamin tablets, he said that they would be unlikely to harm you and if people thought they helped them, fair enough. Guess it's the same with T and BP in tablet forming? I like the idea of including more turmeric and black pepper in diet and am interested to read Derby Tup's recipe.

sd, here is a recipe I have for golden milk paste recipe. I can't remember where I got it from but it's a lovely warming drink.

1 ½ cups water

½ cup turmeric powder

1 piece of fresh ginger, about the size of ½ of your thumb

1 level tablespoon cinnamon

2 level teaspoons ground black pepper

½ teaspoon nutmeg

3 teaspoons coconut oil

Directions:

Pour the water into a small pan and bring to a boil.

Finely grate the ginger and add it to the pan together with the turmeric powder, cinnamon, black pepper, nutmeg and coconut oil.

Stir continuously on a medium-low heat for about 3-4 minutes. If the paste is too thick, add a small splash of water and continue stirring.

Pour the paste into the clean jars, seal and let cool. It will keep in the fridge for a couple of weeks.

For the Golden Milk (serving 1):

1 cup milk of your choice (coconut, almond, dairy etc)

1 heaped teaspoon turmeric paste

½ – 1 teaspoon honey or other sweetener of your choice (optional)

To make the Golden Milk, gently heat one cup of milk of your choice. The milk should be lukewarm and not hot. Whisk in 1 heaped teaspoon of the turmeric paste and the honey or another sweetener of your choice. Serve immediately.

Good article here from NRAS nras.org.uk

I started taking turmeric, pepper & ginger capsules as recommended by someone on the RA forum and they did help with my RA pain but they were not cheap and sadly I had to cancel my subscription when I got made redundant. I do try to add all three of these ingredients into my cooking as often as I can but probably not in enough quantity to make much difference.

I have added an extra dose of Turmeric to my diet as I am trying to get myself off ibuprofen slow release I used to take in unhealthy quantities in order to function moderately. I am down to 800 mg slow release from 2400 per 24 hours. I always liked the root in teas and food. I love my "golden porridge" in the morning. Golden milk, as a spice in my evening meal. A good way to get a good food quantity into my system which is really working for me. It isn't very easily absorbed so heating it in coconut oil, it is fat soluble, not water soluble, so use root for tea, simmer it, add black pepper, freshly ground. Ratio: 3% black pepper to 97% turmeric.
It all adds up if taken daily, at least 2x. Food as medicine doesn't work like a pill so you will have to be patient with it. Be careful though as turmeric is also a yellow/orange die, depending on the mordant used! It stains EVERYTHING!

Here's my recipe (it's a bit simpler than Garfield's one). I've taken a guess at how much a half a cup of turmeric is in grams, but it seems to work OK. I divide it into two and freeze half for later consumption, otherwise it goes off.

I use a Holland and Barrett recipe which is basically add the turmeric powder to warm milk. No making paste in advance.

Got something to say?

About This Thread

Complaining about aches and pains with another runner at our club tonight and he said he swore by turmeric and black pepper capsules as they had made a huge difference for him (a roofer by trade). Just wondering what Fetchies' thoughts are on this? Is there some scientific proof of their efficacy or is it all 'muck and magic', as my dad would say?
