Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Hard to know whether it improves running performance, but it has an easily measurable effect on reducing my blood pressure, so there's clearly something real there. If you look at the relevant research papers, there seems to be some interaction with toothpaste - you need the juice to interact with germs in your mouth and cleaning your teeth after drinking it stops that.

I bought a whole box of them in 2023 for the same reasons. I tried them out for an entire season, taking a 'shot' an hour or so before races (I typically race 800m and 1500m). Apart from the horrible taste and pink urine (which is a bit disconcerting at first!) I didn't notice any performance benefits. Perhaps there were, but I didn't have a non beetroot juice benchmark to test against, and even if it did improve my performance, it would have probably been less than a second.

ugh, beetroot 🤢 I heard, or read? something recently that there is a blackcurrant extract that is even better - but can't find that now

I don't like black currents either, nor tart cherries - is that the othe roption or for something else? so I didn't take much notice.

Ha, that's always a risk!!

We quite like borscht too. Many years ago, when the kids were babies, our nursery called us in a panic because they thought they saw some blood in one of their nappies the night after us having borscht 😂

Good job you hadn't been feeding him blueberries then!

Got something to say?

About This Thread

Saw an advert for that beet-it drink the other day. Allegedly beetroot juice contains lots of nitrates, which when built up properly in your muscles, help improve oxygenation and improve endurance.

I picked up a bottle today, just to try it.

Just curious as to others opinions on it? Bit wary that it's not long to my race now and don't want to be introducing new things, lest it cause any "uncomfortable" situations on race day
