We are about to sell my late dad’s house in Bristol. We had a couple of surveyors in last week so just waiting to see their valuation. We are leaving everything in the hands of the Co-op as it’s too far away for us to deal with and also they are dealing with everything else in his estate. They cost a fortune but in the grand scheme of things it will be worth it if it gets rid hassle free.

From recent experiences the solicitors will take ages and send various queries back and forth, ask for indemnities for things that have never been an issue, and not commit to the exchange date until everything is in place. The searches can take while depending on area. Keep badgering them and if they say they are waiting for a something make sure they've actually asked for it! Good luck!

When we last moved I gave our solicitor a max budget for indemnities and said just crack on and tell me if you reach it. Just to get the bloody thing over the line. Which we did by the skin of our teeth

We've heard nothing at all from our solicitors since 23/1/24, when I took in the buyer and seller paperwork and paid for the searches to be done. Our estate agent has told us today that the searches have been completed. I'm not sure if that is just for our house or for this one and the one we are buying. Geoff's going to chase that up tomorrow.

When I moved the estate agent was excellent, she rang me every Monday with an update and what was potentially missing.

That’s great service, Meglet- it puts your mind at rest when you know what is going on behind the scenes. Our estate agent seems to be doing a lot of the work to ensure our vendor gets things done and has kept in touch with our buyers estate agent, but we’ve had to contact her to find out where we’re at.

I’ve just sold a house I’ve inherited and taking a month out to visit family in the Scottish Highlands - Moray. While I’m up there I plan to look for a home and it would be great if I could have an offer accepted within that month then get on with moving. I’m in Bristol at the moment, renting at my friend’s house; but I can’t bear being in the city anymore as it’s gone from being a sleepy backwater to a noisy dump. Quite a few of my friends have already moved away and others are making tracks.

That’s a big change RS, Bristol to Scotland, but if you already have some family there that’s understandable

Every friend in Bristol bar one is moving/has moved RS, same reasons. It turned from a lovely city that had it all for people like us into a dump...
