Well chain has collapsed again. 3 years I’ve been trying to sell this house.
It is a bit of a first world problem I guess but starting to feel like I am cursed

Sorry to read this, TMW. It seems there is new activity in the housing market, so hopefully things will change for the better for you.

Oh FFS TMW, that’s so frustrating. Does that mean you’ve also lost what you were moving into?
My BF has just had an offer accepted on a house. He’s in rented and will get settlement from his XW, lady selling hasn’t looked yet but will move in with her son, so no chain. He was shocked at how long it could take even with a simple sale! I think he’s looking at 8w. Hoping he doesn’t get any shocks!

I was planning on renting a place for a bit as my medium term plan is to move away from where I live currently. Obviously I hadn’t committed to anywhere as I was waiting for exchange.
In various ways this has messed up my plans. This is the third time I have been at the point of the exchange (twice last year in a chain of 2). I don’t think I’ve had much luck.

Sorry to hear that TMW. It must be really frustrating and hard to plan for anything until it's done. We're coming uo to 2 years trying to sell ours, and it does feel like things are moving a bit now, no doubt thanks to the stamp duty holiday.

We got an offer from a chap that came to view on Friday evening. No messing about, came to view and offered at the asking price which we'd reduced to make the stamp duty more attractive. Just waiting for financial checks but fingers crossed they'll come through.
Just not sure what's happening with the place we offered on pre-lockdown. We immediately went back and re-offered at the asking price which hasn't changed and is, truth be told, a bit on the expensive side for the area/property. The lady who lives there and who showed us round was happy with our offer, but her ex husband 'wants more time to consider it'. It's an offer at the asking price you dolt! I think there are personal relationship politics coming to play.
We have options in any case, just haven't seen anything that's such a good fit for what we need, or slightly less of a good fit but cheaper.

The saga continues. Things are progressing with our sale and our offer on house we wanted to buy was accepted (there are complications but shouldn’t stop us from buying and moving in).
Our buyers solicitors seem to be taking everything to the nth degree and practitioners every week since we agreed the sale we have been asked for additional documentation or assurances.
We were asked to take out indemnity when they couldn’t find the details of a covenant from 1865. Luckily we have a copy of the deeds and it relates to the sale of the land and position of drainage!
Then 2 weeks ago we were asked to provide details of an asbestos assessment and fire risk assessment for the common areas of flats. Our neighbour sold last month and didn’t have to provide this. So we’re paying for a fire assessment now. And then tonight they have asked if we’ll leave the washer dryer for free. We did say we would be prepared to leave it as it’s a beast to get removals firms to carry down 4 flights of stairs, but I want an offer for it. And frankly they’re taking the piss. I’m so worried this sale will fall through, and we’ll lose all the viewings we could have had over the summer.

Buyers and their solicitors seem to be total arses these days. My sympathies Scribbler. I hope I’m not like that, maybe the karma will bite them in the future.
I have a brand new chain mostly all on the way to being ready to go, there has been talk of an October move date. I’d only just filled up my freezer in anticipation of the next lockdown so need to work my way through it!
Let’s see what happens this time. My house has now been on the market 2 years. Still not sure quite where I end up renting!
