One hell of a ride from Little Pete to keep them in touch with Quintana, then what a follow up from Porte, about 25 riders taken down to about 6 in the matter of mins, recover then ride away from them all again.
Good to see Schleck starting to show what he can do again.

Contador a shadow of his former self - is that because he is now clean ?

Kreuziger looking stronger than Contador. the Dutchmen starting to deliver the promise of previous years.
The coming years could be amazing, there's a lot of young excellent riders. Little Pete has just shown that he could be the man to keep Sky in contention for at least 10 years. Kwiatkowski, Talansky, Quintana, Pinot, TJVG...... White jersey battle in this race will be more exciting than the one for yellow.

I'll be interested to see the climb times and analysis on sportscientists.com. Great article on there today.
Let all the insinuations of drugs and not on drugs and no longer on drugs and locked up Spanish doctors and tighter French controls and free Spanish passes at La Vuelta commence.

Kennaugh's descending going to be very important tomorrow, Sky show you have a plan, you stick to it, they didn't panic on the penultimate climb, and had energy to spare for the final one. Wonder if Quintana was riding for the prize money on the highest peak? Or was a decoy to set Valverde up? Still excellent riding, great stage, although perhaps not quite so if you want someone to upset the Sky applecart.

The Science of Sport #Froome - 23:14 for Ax-3-Domaines, VAM of 1715 m/h, Ferrari's #power model calculates 6.3 W/kg, CPL 6.5 W/kg. Third fastest in history #TDF
From an earlier article on their blog:
In terms of a prediction, I mentioned that the pVAM method predicts a 24:17. I expect it will be faster than that, because we're only in the first week of the Tour so riders are fresh, it's the first mountain finish so motivation will be higher, and the model prediction is based on three GC riders anyway - the best will be faster. If I had to gaze into my crystal ball, I'd predict a time between 23:40 and 23:50, corresponding to between 6.2 and 6.3 W/kg.
So Froome was 30 seconds faster than predicted - but 20s slower than the climb record held by LA from 2001. Porte was outside prediction of winning times and nobody else was even close - extrapolating back gives Contador around 25:00.

Depends on variables, wind, heat, distance of stage, number of climbs before the last climb and quite a few others too. It's good but still needs a few more climbs to properly see a trend and draw specific conclusions, in my opinion

I agree completely, but it is an interesting first data point.
