Smart plug is only £10 btw to monitor as Fizz says. Can also use phone app to turn off, if accidentally left on. G

I have no phone that does apps and no phone signal so smart stuff doesn't work here but I like the idea of a plug that shows what that radiator, my fan heater and greenhouse heater do. Will have a look, thanks Fizz.

Can possibly store to cloud or PC (though might still expect to go via phone, so that my be a problem.)

There are also less smart plugs (electronic timer plugs) that measure consumption. No app or remote access or anything like that, they have a little display.

Nope, excitement didn't last long! I have no wifi or phone signal there so it won't work... Back to simple stuff: turning it off for an hour, noting meter reading before and after, then turn it on max for an hour, then turn the fan heater on for an hour and take meter readings to see what each one does. |

Ta jda I have just turned the rad on max, noted meter reading. Patient at 4 pm, so will note again after he has gone and I turn the thing down again. I will turn the fan heater on to boost heat a couple of hours before too, so again will note meter readings. This way I work out how much a consultation costs! |

That seems reasonable Hanneke. A radiator will have a known rating (eg maybe 2.5kW) but a modern one with thermostat won't be using max power all the time it's on, assuming the room ever reaches a reasonable temperature...
