Good progress Synge. I've been to Loughborough many times but never run around Charnwood Water. Is it worth a detour?

I wouldn't rate it as worth a detour, becca. The mile markers are probably misleading on that image; it's only about three-quarters of a mile round the lake. And it's quite enclosed, very suburban by comparison with some of the lovely countryside in the area.
Looking at my other outings there (in 2016), I see that we did have a nice run out through Quorn onto quiet roads and paths towards Swithland Reservoir and we also made a trip to walk in Bradgate Park. I would recommend both of those options. Here's the first route we did. (Elder daughter was in Loughborough at the time and she led the way round this one.)

Ah, yes, there is no shortage of lovely places to run around there, which is probably why I've never made it to Charnwood Water.

I glided through Chester yesterday and walked along a bit of the Shropshire Union canal this morning. Looking at the map, I think I'm going to spend quite a bit of time alongside it.

No chance of spending the night in what looks like a chapel, it’s boarded up. I pity I can’t read the plaque.
