The Doctor K Cup
98 watchers
The seventh annual Doctor K Cup will take place on Saturday October 19th 2024
All you need is a GPS watch or app. On the day, RUN AT LEAST 5K WITHOUT LOOKING AT YOUR WATCH. The Fetch Benchmark system will pull out your fastest 5k from your run (so you can include it as part of your long run if you like). The person who gets closest to their prediction will be declared the winner (though the judges decision is final!).
It would be lovely if you could upload your 'K' pics to the gallery (make a K shape with your fingers) to help us remember Doctor K and all the Fetchies we have lost.
NB A GPS watch reporting 5.00km will do so from 4995 metres onwards, but you MUST run at least 5000 metres or more. To avoid disappointment add an extra 10 seconds on to the end of your run, just to make sure.
How to join in
Firstly, add the 2024 Doctor K Cup to your Fetch portfolio. All you need is a GPS watch or app. On the day, RUN AT LEAST 5K WITHOUT LOOKING AT YOUR WATCH. And done ... very, very slowly. In fact I'm pretty sure that my estimate will be further out than anyone else's I guestimated 48 minutes plus change, it turned out to take a tad longer than that ... Almost and hour and a half longer ... . The original plan was to do two walks, one very abridged with SWMBO giving it her all ~ after all, she's only been back on her feet a week and she still needs her zimmer frame and/or stick ... depending on terrain and distance. And then, right at the last moment, she decided that although she's not a member here and, like many of us, had never actually met Doctor K, that she wanted to try to do the whole 5k! Never mind 'This Girl Can!', My Girl Does! So we were out 'just a bit' longer than expected ... and I freely admit that I paused the timer whenever she needed a break ~ and that we also stopped for a good while to have a coffee break at the mid point ... but she got there in the end Slow And Proud has rarely been more fitting! :cake: We both send hugs to SE, and send hugs and wave to Doctor K's nearest and dearest. Same time, same place next year? |

Well done, dec and SWMBO. Mine was 12 hours late and not a parkrun - but got 5 hilly Ks done this evening... and whilst you can't see Bolton from here, you can just see the West Pennines overlooking Bolton in the background... |
