The Doctor K Cup

1 lurker | 98 watchers
The seventh annual Doctor K Cup will take place on Saturday October 19th 2024

How to join in

Firstly, add the 2024 Doctor K Cup to your Fetch portfolio.

All you need is a GPS watch or app. On the day, RUN AT LEAST 5K WITHOUT LOOKING AT YOUR WATCH. The Fetch Benchmark system will pull out your fastest 5k from your run (so you can include it as part of your long run if you like). The person who gets closest to their prediction will be declared the winner (though the judges decision is final!).

It would be lovely if you could upload your 'K' pics to the gallery (make a K shape with your fingers) to help us remember Doctor K and all the Fetchies we have lost.

NB A GPS watch reporting 5.00km will do so from 4995 metres onwards, but you MUST run at least 5000 metres or more. To avoid disappointment add an extra 10 seconds on to the end of your run, just to make sure.

[She *really* felt her over done bits yesterday eve and overnight :-(

And today she's quite bouncy again ... albeit in a bouncing zimmer/walking stick sort of way ;-) :-)

Solvitur ambulando, Relentless Forward Progress, Chuck a fish at it! and further, similar, positivities ;-) :-) ]

***STEWARDS' INQUIRY***

Firstly, sorry for posting so late. I just didn't get a chance to check in and post yesterday.

Full disclosure pt1 - my local parkrun (Grovelands Park in Winchmore Hill, Norf Lundun) has a helpful marshal who calls out the elapsed time as the runners pass him at the last turn on each of the three laps. So it would be impossible to run completely naked unless you put your hands over your ears and shouted "lah lah lah, I can't hear you" to drown him out each time you passed.

Full disclosure pt2 - I wasn't naked, I had my Garmin on for ease of uploading the training record to Fetch. But I swear I didn't look at it once from start to finish, not even when it bleeped to mark the mile splits.

However, my Garmin recorded my time as 23:23, putting me 7 seconds ahead of my predicted 23:30. There was an error in the results processing at parkrun, so the quoted time of 23:29 was incorrect, I was not 1 second off my predicted time, and I am not the winner of the trophy.

***STEWARDS' INQUIRY - RESULT***
Snayak is the winner. I do hope you hadn't already engraved the trophy, Joopsy?

Well done everyone. I will try and enter next year. This year I was a pacer at my local event so couldn't give it a go.

Can we all please be upstanding for a truly remarkable display of sportmanship from Fitz!

Thanks so much for your honesty fitz, I would have happily let you off with the marshall thing but I really appreciate you being honest regarding the inaccuracy of the times. This really is in the true spirit of this competition and I applaud you heartily.

So in a late twist to events the stewards have convened and teh final placings now look as follows:

3rd place - Fitz - 7 seconds
2nd place - The Pin Lady - 6 seconds
1st place - Snayak - 5 seconds medal

SNAYAK is declared the winner, the cup stays in the North and Steady Edina still holds the record with her 3 seconds from 2017.

Hoorah for the Fetchies!!

About This Thread

2024 Instructions

Add the following race to your portfolio:

fetcheveryone.com/races/the-doctor-k-cup-10329609

Enter your predicted time by October 18th (the day before the run).

On the 19th October, run at least 5k WITHOUT LOOKING AT YOUR WATCH OR GETTING ANY PACING HELP!!!

RESULTS WILL BE POSTED HERE:

fetcheveryone.com/doctorkcup.php

Fetch will extract the results by looking at your benchmarks for 5k (so for your own sake, avoid tunnels, tall buildings, heavy tree cover, pylons etc). If you are running a local 5k loop, please add a bit on, just to make sure that your watch registers at least 5k's worth of data. But no peeking!

The person who is closest to their predicted time will win the 'Doctor K Cup' for one year.

NB Doctor K was a big parkrun fan - so you can do your run at parkrun, but ***PLEASE*** make sure you cover at least 5000 metres. A GPS watch reporting 5.00km will do so from 4995 metres onwards, but you MUST run at least 5000 metres or more. To avoid disappointment add an extra 10 seconds on to the end of your run, just to make sure.
