Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

No-one except a few in England and Australia will play test cricket - all the kids will sign franchise deals.

No one will play county cricket. No one will play test cricket.

It's the death knell of anything but T20.

See also Packer/World Series/pyjama cricket... cricket will need to evolve for sure, but I don't share your apocalyptic view. 20 over cricket itself was virtually extinct by the late 80s/early 90s in club cricket and had never been played professionally. The world turns, but Test cricket will keep going, as will the counties. I do accept that some of the smaller counties are at risk of not being financially viable (more of an ongoing risk than a new risk).

The main risk for test cricket as I see it is that outside of England, India and Australia it just isn’t financially viable for the boards. South Africa are playing fewer and fewer tests every year, and for South African players the lure of IPL cash will be irresistible.

Is it Prague?

So many formats, so many different teams with the same people in them. I’m finding it increasingly difficult to care.

I think that's my problem with the IPL, it is just various people in various line ups.

I think it seems The Hundred is dead, fair enough, but there is no point keeping it for the Women's game if it is, as well as it's done for them. It's a dead format.

I think Test Matches will carry on, because T20 is actually shrinking despite those contracts, see Big Bashthey're killing it. Once the numbers watching fall below a certain threshold various leagues will die. It will take a concerted effort to keep.some countries playing but I reckon that'll happen.

As for kids signing up to T20, those kids come from somewhere, soon those kids will be contracted and they're be bought and sold as per football transfers.
