It's not the Central contracted players - it's the ones they buy in to replace the central contracted players.

And before hypocrisy is levelled. Yes, Yorkshire have done this too now. Malan and Willey (now departed) being the obvious ones.

But Surrey were the trailblazers and still have more cash than most other counties.

This sort of thing is what I object to: bbc.co.uk

Yorks shouldn't be stooping to BHF levels.

They should be finding English qualified Yorkshirepeople to promote rather than buying in Aussies.

No, the point of the CC and other competitions is to try to win it or otherwise do as well as possible. How sides go about that, within the rules, is their business.

The difference in the CC is that historically and culturally, it has been that the teams were made up primarily of cricketers who were born and raised in the county.

And not a football-style mercenary class who simply play for the highest bidder.

I realise that has changed somewhat (particularly driven by Surrey and Sussex - and others) in more recent times.

But this should not be celebrated.

This is why I hate the hundred so much. It has no link whatsoever to the local area in which they are supposed to be based. It's just artificial from start to finish.
