Is the muzzle just when going out walking? If so we use the muzzles from The Muzzle Shop. They are very lightweight (they are the ones for greyhounds but they do them for most breeds now) and having tried a great number of muzzles over time they are really the only ones that didn't rub Wanda's face. The holes are quite big so I think if Wanda was determined to eat say a chip on the floor with it on she probably could but it would be a struggle and we'd have time to pull her away from it.

Yes, just for going out walking so she doesn't eat something she shouldn't again, especially when off lead.

Definitely look at The Muzzle Shop - they are on Facebook and the lady who runs it, Fiona, is so incredibly helpful. Wanda doesn't wear a muzzle all the time - really now it's only if we go somewhere very busy where there might be lots of other dogs or children running around (and we try to avoid such places anyway) - and she can get out of the current muzzle if she puts her mind to it but you can get a further head strap for them which prevents that. When we were getting her used to it and she wore it every day she was far more accepting of it (and was much more comfortable in it than any other muzzle we tried - and we tried quite a few including one that was supposed to be really comfortable, made of soft leather and very expensive and was awful!). The Muzzle Shop ones are also relatively inexpensive so if that one isn't right for you then it's not the expensive mistake that our one above was!

Phew - tough few weeks with Jet, and a bill that exceeds one year of premiums, just for one set of investigations. Lots of other 'on-off' bills too.
Long story short - other nasties have been ruled out but Jet is terminally bewildered - I think the official phrase is canine cognitive dysfunction syndrome (CCD). He's nocurnal now, so we're testing sedatives, but he fights the effects which seem to worry him, and will pace for 3-4 hours non-stop until the drug wears off. Heavily doped up (Jet), he and Mr were walking the local streets in the wee small hours 10 days ago when Jet was attacked by a stray Akita, bitten three times and badly bruised. I thought he wouldn't survive the shock, but amazingly he has come through. We still take turns to stay up all night with a confused and anxious pacing dog, but I'm still glad he's with us.

Crikey Helegant, that sounds really tough for both Jet and his humans. It must be hard to see Jet anxious and befuddled.
Sending love to you all xx

I saw your posts on FB Helegant and worried for Jet and you. I'm glad he's got through that horrible attack. The cognitive dysfunction sounds familiar as our beloved Daisy had something of that sort in her final year or so. She wasn't anxious, fortunately, just hardly seemed to know where she was.
