BaronessBL Dec 2024 2:30pm, 6 Dec 2024 10,713 posts	0 BaronessBL Thanks to you Dave - and I mean this in a good way from your observations when I posted previously on this thread - Wanda is also on thyroid medication for life but it is definitely less expensive to get the prescription and order from elsewhere. We are keeping Wanda insured at the moment but we do give it serious thought every time the annual renewal comes up. Last night Wanda took a long time out in the garden for her late night wee and it was only repeatedly calling that it was time for some cheese (in which said thyroid pill is hidden) that got her in. Half an hour later she was frantic to go out again. BaronBR suggested that perhaps she had found a rat in the compost bin so I went out to see what was going on. The strong winds had blown a bird feeder that had been recently filled with fat balls off the tree. By the time I discovered it, the last piece of fat ball was disappearing down Wanda's throat. Still I suppose it would only have ended up being dragged into the compost by the rat if it had been left there........

Our first dog, we couldn't believe that we would ever need to spend that much on vet bills - oh so naive! Instead, Charlie had his own bank account that we put £50 into each month. Last year was an expensive year (cost us over £5000!) but when he died we were actually about break even point.

She still has the cyst, but it's no longer making her eye sore and weepy, so we're inclined to spare her a GA to remove it when it's not causing her any trouble. We'll see what the opthalmology specialist vet says on Tuesday.

She was entirely on board with our view that the stress of an op would not give any measurable improvement to her quality of life. We will be vigilant and if it gets noticeably worse, or makes her eye really sore, we'll reconsider. She said that if Floss was seven, say, she'd suggest it was worth doing, but at twelve and a bit, not. It really isn't bothering her now the choramphenicol has done its stuff.

We discussed a black dot Floss has in the same eye (which is apparently a cyst in the iris, no action required) and she took a photo of it to add to her gallery on her phone - photos of hundreds of eyes!!!
