This is the round shawl version - much easier as it's knitted all in one piece. The pattern knits it flat then sews up a single seam, but I've found it's even easier to knit it in the round.
jabberknit, I am almost certain that that is the shawl pattern my grandmother knitted for my brother when he was born. It was used by all three children and then we played with it with our dolls.
I've had this photocopy since the mid-1970s, Cyclops, taken from a copy of a booklet my Mum had. This particular Paton's pattern must have been produced around the late 60s/early 70s because it's a bit mixed between imperial and metric. The shawl patterns as knit are probably much older though, they're very traditional designs.
I've probably got the original in the box of patterns that I acquired from Gt A Mary and my Nan - but it may take some time to shuffle through and dig it out
