Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

If there is an upside to shielding (part from staying safe) is seeing the bird activity in the garden that I would normally miss if I was at work.
Apart from seeing a coal tit for the first time, there have been no new visitors but I love watching the antics of starlings in particular.

Did someone mention greenfinch? I can’t remember when I last saw one but there was a pair up near Penistone Hill this morning. Male is an understated but handsome bird

We had a group of four greenfinches on one of the feeders yesterday. They’re only occasional visitors to the garden so nice to see.

We've got a pair still on our feeders, usually disappeared by now, fingers crossed we'll get some fledglings for the first time this year

This bird has become a regular under the niger seeds picking up the debris that the goldfinches drop. Can someone tell me... is it a chaffinch? It’s the right size.. but it’s different from the other chaffinches. Thankyou.

Try googling "chaffinch brambling hybrid"; see what you think.

I heard my first snipe drumming this evening.

I wondered if chaffinch could breed with brambling. Coarse fish can hybridise. Roach-rudd is possible and roach-bream reasonably common

Eynsham Red - I'm not shielding but working from home more regularly then I usually do and it's great looking out on the small front garden we have and seeing the birdlife.

I noted the following visitors yesterday; blue tits, coal tits, herring gull, wood pigeon, jackdaw, blackbird, starling, sparrow and rook. Sadly no reappearance of the greenfinch.
