Yes, that makes sense. It must have accelerometers for step count purposes at the very least.

Odd that I didn't get a "GPS lost" message, but maybe I did and just didn't notice!

Garmin estimates step length for indoor running (I believe based on data from the runs with GPS it has) so it would have used that function.

It was disappointingly ambitious with my pace as an estimate. Surprised it didn't have a good idea of step distance, but maybe my recent running has been so all over the place that I've messed up the averages.

It recorded altitude too alongside cadence and HR data, but the fit file has no other geolocation beyond about 6 minutes in.

Good to know it has some sort of "backup" option for when the GPS fails.

Afternoon. for those interested in nerdy detail, Cheshire Lady and I both ran the new Alderley Park Parkrun today. This is a twisty course that is under lots and lots of tree cover. I have the Fenix 7 and she has the 245. You can see a big difference in accuracy ...

Race overview from Fenix

Race overview from 245

Once corner from Fenix

Same corner from 245

The 245 measured the course as 4.76km and the Fenix as 4.98

My 245 would have given the same erratic trace as Cheshire Lady's 245 trace, even in open country, whereas my old 310XT (still in use) would have matched your Fenix 7 (perhaps apart from any trees or tall buildings).

Homer, I assume your accuracy is due to dual band, and therefore you must have a Fenix 7 Sapphire ?
The base (non-Sapphire) Fenix 7 versions don't have dual band and I'm guessing would still struggle on a course like that.
Worth clarifying in case anyone looking for increased GPS accuracy rushes off and buys a base Fenix 7 😋 - hint, buy the 955 it's cheaper ( or the 255 if you don't need maps is a LOT cheaper )

The new GPS stuff mirrors what I’ve seen - it’s so good!

Interesting though that I've seen a few reviews saying that whilst dual band in the 255 is better than non dual band, it's not quite as accurate as the dual band in the 955 or F7Sapphire
You'd think it was the same chipset and software used, but obviously not.
