There’s plain, and then there’s over-decorating. This one is close to me. rightmove.co.uk |

Lots of these houses seem to have a 'throw rug' that looks like a dead animal

My BF moved into a house just before Christmas. I viewed it with him, there were nicknacks on every available surface and wall, and even chairs and stuffed toys on the stairs. We spent the first day in removing picture hills and finding out that the stuff was hiding damp and poor decoration. In the bathroom alone there were 10 hooks on the wall!

We bought our house having viewed it twice. The sellers had lots of ornaments and souvenirs on the walls, similar to some of the photos seen in the houses above. One wall had a Zulu-type shield and spear. When we came to move in, all the detritus had been taken out, and it was only then that we realised that the wallpaper on the part of wall behind where the shield had been was leopard print... When we turned the corner and saw it for the first time it was a real 'OMG' moment..! |

When we moved in to this house we discovered why the main bedroom furniture layout hadn't made sense when we viewed it. The dips in the carpet gave the game away that the chipboard flooring had been butchered to put the central heating in! Luckily we had an overlap with our rented property so had time to rip the floor up and renew it before moving in!! |

Furniture and nicknacks hide an awful lot! I know you’re supposed to look past the decor but sometimes it’s telling you something. It was the same at BFs. How could we look round and think the standard of decor was reasonable, then see it empty and realise not only is the wallpaper awful and chintzy, it’s hanging off the walls in many places? My house had been rented and was full of stuff and boxes, but I insisted the owner do a professional clean before I exchanged so it was actually ok when I moved in, just plain and boring with no storage. |

So, for those wondering, here's the "Yellow House" that was mentioned earlier. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.8580963,-1.5063903,3a,84.1y,14.63h,93.42t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sOzLtHTeHW-HWEy41uzF0eA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192 It's very much still there. I am semi-reliably informed that the lady of the house is Spanish. Hence the spanish style. It's not for me personally. |

(you'll have to copy and past that link, Fetch's link clicky generator breaks for google maps links for some reason).
