Took the magic shoes out for their christening this morning (probably no time tomorrow). Gosh they are bouncy. Actually felt quite easy to run in, walking was more strange if anything.

No fast efforts though, that will be Wednesday's fun. Race on Sunday.

Boom.

My go-to early season interval workout at this time of year is 8 x 4 mins with 3 off. Basically 1km pieces, my pace has edged down over the past few years from 4/km to 3:55 and 3:50 (I'm not good at intervals, but it's a good benchmark workout). Last week's session was 3:49 which matched my best from this time last year. That was in the zoom fly which I think are similar pace to my adios boost.

Today in the vaporfly for the first proper session: 3:42/km. Or to put it another way, I covered exactly 250m further over the 32 mins than I did last week. More than 7 secs per km, or a good 5 mins over a marathon.

I could perhaps believe that being well rested and fed after Christmas is worth a second or two per km, but not 7.

That’s a serious session JDA. Hope you can translate that in to MP come April.

My Zoom Fly arrived this evening, I bought them with a view to running sessions in. They feel just so different to the VF, just so heavy by comparison. Let’s see what they are like to train in but I am going to take a bit of convincing.

WW - I like them as a training shoe. Took 2 runs in them to feel right but I normally run in Nike Free

My wife bashed out two big PBs in hers (zoom Flyknit) straight away. I agree they don't seem magic but fine for running in.

I took them out for a spin and you were right of course chaps. Very nice. If it weren’t for the VF I think these would be top of the pops!

37:16 for me today, that's a 20 sec PB but perhaps more relevant it's over a minute quicker than the same event/course last year. Almost 7 secs/km in fact, just like my recent training pieces :-)

Conditions were good and both male and female course records were broken. My wife also knocked off another 30 secs off her recent PB - again in her zoom fly.

I actually still don't really know how fast the shoes are - I ran at what I thought was a decent pace/effort but seemed to have a bit in the tank at the end. Mind you the best races often turn out that way. All evidence points to me being in very similar condition to last year.

Shoes are back in cotton wool for a bit now - next scheduled races in Feb by which time I should be a fair bit faster.
