JDA - re "having a bit in the tank at the end" - I do think this is another benefit of them - the foam is so good you just don't get bashed up like you do when you push it in conventional flats - another plus that accrues particularly over halfs and marathons - you just feel fresher at the end. Congrats on the results too!

That's been my finding so far. Haven't raced long in them yet, but did an 8.7 mile brisk run in mine and found my legs felt a little fresher than usual towards the end...

Disappointed I didn't wear them for my NYE 10k now but the run I did caused me some shin splint type pains for a few days. I'm guessing the don't have much pronation support since the mid section is so narrow

So what are the zoom fly's (NOT vapor flys) like in terms of fit? Ie is size 8 a real size 8 or up or down half a size. And what are they like width wise?

Same as the VF I find. Mind you I'm not fussy about shoes, I don't think I've ever found a size 11 I couldn't happily run in. Used to think I was 10.5, min you...

Used my ZF for a proper 20m long run yesterday, worked a treat. Didn't notice any speed advantage (I was v tired and not trying too hard) but they saved my legs from a beating.

Chris - if you get the FlyKnit then the feel is very like the VF (Flyknit). They are tight and expand / stretch as you put your foot in. I think that means that any size within reason is going to feel snug from a width perspective. I'd say that both my ZF and my VF FlyKnits feel quite narrow but that hasn't caused me any issues as yet - presumably this is the intention and the snug / sock like feel adds some support.

Sizing. Hmm. I'm an EU 41 in everything I buy. My ZF in a 41 are actually a bit big. My VF FK in a 41 are a bit small and my original VF perfect. Figure that one out (!) - I suppose the only way to be sure is to try, otherwise you've got to be willing to risk a return in the case that you can't get on with them.

You going in the market? I got my ZF FK for 97 quid from Nike direct.....

I'm doing my best to ignore the tech arms race in the name of purity of performance. But I can't ignore the lure...

How long do we think before the principles of the VF / ZF and their evidenced benefits starts to cascade across other brands racers or lower tier "training" shoes?

hasn't this already happened with the ZF Lark? They are basically 100 quid which appears to me to be less than most people spend having walked out of a proper running shop with their lovely pair of Asics Gel whatever (holds head in hands).

Sorry yes I meant to say quite snug width-ways but comfortable enough. I have the non-flyknit which probably have a little more slack (in that the upper is split like a standard shoe). No real risk with returns - my wife got 3 pairs of ZF to choose between!

larks - you can say purity, but ANY running shoe is going to affect performance to some extent. If you were barefoot (or took a totally flat plimsoll), only then would that be truly pure :-). Ok the pertinent question is where do we draw the line? I think the only way to find out is to try the different options. If suddenly I'm running a couple of minutes faster over half marathon then suddenly I'll know :-).
