The argument about the step change has been there for sometime now, it's not just happened. WA don't see it that way, so here we are.

I didn’t like it to start with but have accepted that times move on. I’m not an elite runner so the times are only relevant to me anyway. That means it’s about going as fast as I can within the rules. If that means drinking beetroot juice, eating quinoa, wearing compression socks or taking gels then so be it.

It happens. Think about pole vault, javelin, 2k rowing times (my own previous sport), the hour record in cycling.
While those all very obviously have a component of "equipment", running has never been immune - cinder tracks, anyone? Spikes? It's just the last few years have seen a rather more rapid change.

I suppose I'll get used to it. I just think it will be hard for me to feel quite so pleased with any new PBs.

I think WA could have limited this by more and earlier. I can see why it would be hard though given the potential financial stakes for the sport. There won't be a rewind, so there will be a new normal eventually.

I’ve just had a peek - you have got some cracking pb’s J2R, presumably all with ‘old’ technology? Maybe use the Half as a “Pepsi Challenge” to crack the elusive 1:20 with and without supershoes?!
I think I probably had a similar view that “it’s a shame” but the toothpaste is out of the tube. At least there is a choice of poison now.

SailorSteve, yes, I thought of that. If I do it with the supershoes, I will allow myself the tick (because I have also been doing probably the most thorough training of my life, which will help too), but I will be tempted to have a go again with other shoes, just to see.

Posted on the elite thread but no one mentioned the women's HM record being broken (29 secs) by Ruth Chepngetich on Sunday. Was there a collective shrug or people just missed it?
