That's a good read Steve, a great result and race. I posted on your blog that I think your splits were tighter than those of Kipchoge and he didn't do a negative split either if I remember correctly. |

I think we can all take from EK's run that a 2min +ve split is perfectly acceptable! Even if -ve splits, like SS's performance, are the gold standard |

It’s the eternal question isn’t it? How fast can I go, on this course, in these conditions, today? Even afterwards we never really know. A negative split with no slow down; surely too easy early on? Wheels off, positive split; too fast, too, soon? Negative split, slight slowdown; slight positive split with slight slowdown = best you could do on the day? I’ve obviously looked back to ponder where I might have burgled a few extra seconds. It’s tempting to say that I was a little too cautious in the early miles but I was working feckin hard by the end, so I fear the “compound interest” on any earlier “withdrawals” would have been crippling. I could certainly have squeezed out a handful of seconds in the last 200m, but not many. I know I’m flying my “look at me flag” and maybe post-rationalising, but I really think I got the most out of what I had on the day. |

It's an interesting debate, Steve. Nobody thinks you're milking it.. Well, no more than any of us would and probably much less. 😉

I've ridden high on that elation of getting that marvellous blend of a time you are proud of and a a marathon experience which was enjoyable and (relatively) pain free. This place is a perfect location to bask gloriously in that feeling, I'm sure none of us would begrudge you that!
