Looking forward to the Stoosh comeback in about 18 years time ;-)

I got a bit of a reminder last night about how far I have fallen. I was disappointed with 41:20 in a 10k but knew it was a good run to build from. Then I see on strava that SiL ran an HM only a few seconds per mile slower than I managed for 10k.

Crikey Bazo, I wouldn't worry too much, I'd bite someones hand off for a 41.20, I'd be happy to stay under 45 currently!!!

I wasnt unhappy Chris as 10k at 6:38mm is a good effort and splits were pretty even if you account for the wind.

However 3 mins down on my PB and 2 mins down on my last 10k (which was in horrible monsoon conditions) is a big gap.

I know I will not ready PB level again, but sub 40 should be possible. Or at least give me a target to aim for

I can't run at 6.30 pace at all currently (apart from a sprint), 6.50 if lucky!

And lol Bazo, when you said of your 20 min parkrun that your HR was only at 160 and should be 170 plus so perhaps you weren't trying enough. A 22:30 parkrun a few weeks ago saw me at HR of 194 (and my maximum is 193 ;-) :-O ). I'd much rather have too low an HR for your time, than my time with my heart exploding! heart :-) G

Baz, understand your frustrations but reckon given your injury difficulties last year you should treat that as a step in the right direction. It's equivalent to a 3:10 marathon according to the vdot tables and you're not at the sort of mileage you were when you were dipping under 3hrs.

Reckon you're more upset that your SiL has pulled out a good time, be patient and put that right next time out 😉

I'm in a slightly more positive mood that Baz, but I recognise 100% the sentiment. 10k I think really brings it home as 2-3 minutes feels like a lifetime when you're at the level of effort the final few km requires.

It'll come; a few consistent weeks of stimulus, maybe up the ratio of tempo / intervals to easy running for a few weeks and see what happens?

For me I'm just trusting in P&D and the injury faeries and ignoring (mostly) the gap between where I'd have wanted to be 12 months ago and where I am now. If 12 weeks of P&D goodness doesn't make a difference, then I'll have to reflect, but for now I'm all on on "trust the process".

larks, my plan is a weekly set of intervals which will be 5 x 1k this week but I may mix these up. I plan to do at lunchtime in daylight and so may have a time limiter meaning I cant do longer intervals. I think I would like to do some JD type longer intervals (2x 2m etc) but will need to have enough time for such a run. Along with this I will aim to do parkrun as well. Next 10k is mid February and see how much I have improved

I think I need to be a little braver on pace and as long as its not too windy I will give sub 20 a bash this weekend

I think you are right, you need to trust the plan and P&D is as good as any and delivers you to the start line in good shape (as long as you are not unlucky with injury)

Good intervals yesterday Baz, fingers crossed for Saturday's weather to let you string 5 of those together and beat me to the sub 20 mark!

Sticking religiously to the P&D plan that I followed in early 2020 at the moment which is nice as it gives me comparability. Mostly good news in that I'm not as far off as I'd feared, though I wonder if I'm over-stretching paces a little to try to keep up with where I might have wanted to me. Tempo last night was about 5s per mile slower than I'd done 2 years ago, which if you'd asked me 2 weeks ago I'd have bitten your hand off for. Had to cram MP + MLR + T runs into Sunday, Monday and Wednesday due to "life" which whilst not best advised, has also given me an insight into what I can stretch to, and with no disasters so far motivation is good and I'm even starting to think that sub 3:20 might be do-able.

10 weeks to go though, plenty of time for good and bad!!
