best age-grade for me is 5K and 10K, probably due to parkrun - I just scrape above 75%. My marathon is 10% less!

Same for me. Even though I trained very hard for my marathon bests, they are miles away from 5K and 10K WAVAs. To me, that is just evidence of how hard it is to train well for a marathon, compared to knocking out 5Ks and 10Ks. :-) G

what G said ^

I have put a lot more effort in to getting to 73% for the marathon than 78% for 5k.

There's also the repeatability angle too. Get a 5k wrong and run another one a few days later. Get a marathon wrong and lament over it for months (multiple runners excl, of course).

I wonder if anyone in the Fetch-iverse has a better mara WAVA than 10K/5K? :-) G

I sometimes wish we could just have SQL access to Fetch's database! :-) G

There'll be some who don't race 5ks at all, so their mara times will be better WAVA scores.

I suppose a WAVA "100%" only takes 1 exceptional person to get things perfectly right on the day, and the %ages are forever skewed towards that performance, which then affects lower down the line.

Interesting that the WAVA grades seem to be more in line with standard Reigel predictions, whereas the received wisdom here is that Reigel is a stretch too far for most when its applied to marathon distance.

Remember guys that the WAVA rates that Fetch uses are out of date now, new ones ( they're harder, ie your wava would go down ) were published a couple of years ago but Fetch has not implemented them.

So your 75% say, might just be "worth" 72-73% on another website.

6 points between my 10K and Mara bests. 1 mile, 5K and 10K are close. My 10 mile looks soft on this basis. Could do better.

Larks, I think it just reflects better conversion by the elites. To me, a 50 yr old bloke who did 2:30 (or whatever the WAVA 100% for 50 is) will probably be very well trained and possibly a marathon specialist, and/or coming down from being a 2:15 in his earlier days?

Don't let Fetch update WAVA tables - the only chance I've got is WAVA nowadays. :-) G

lol, sorry if I gave the impression that I nailed my 7 tempo miles. I completed them is a more accurate description. I nailed the warm up though :-)

Re WAVA, up until earlier this year my best WAVAs were always at HM but I think it is now 10k with 5k having improved as well. marathon lags behind sadly given that's the one that is my main focus.
