CW, nice one. I did my tempo this morning and it ended up being 10.5 with 7 at LT effort but I struggled if I am honest and I thought about cutting it short or taking breaks. Still a good hard run, but was in the low 6:40s, albeit the HR wasn't as high as it could/should have been. I am wondering if I need to re-check my max HR On the TMI discussion, it doesn't happen to me often either, but it has done and sometimes you have to improvise ! |

tbh 7m at somewhere between 10m (well, 15k according to the book) and HM race pace should be a struggle. With CW and Baz nailing their sessions (even if there's been some creativity going on), the pressure is on for me to deliver on Friday night now!

Oh, nailed my session last night too Lark! Different one (long progressive) but pleased to get it done after the worries of the weekend. In fact, today I have a sniffle which is somewhat reassuring. Good running that Baz. Nothing to be concerned about there, 7 is not an easy LT to pull off. G - the number of piss-stops I require on a long run annoys me. For me it's because I get up, cram fluids in and then straight out of the door. On a race day I would always stop drinking 1 hour before the race which gives time to get through he system. |

Ah yes, saw your near perfect increasing paced miles WW. Impressive stuff, especially to be sensitive enough to bring the paces down just a few seconds at a time. It always amazes me how accurate humans can sometimes be at these things - running 7m20 mile vs a 7m10 mile means instead of covering 3m66cm per second you've covering 3m74cm per second - a trivially small difference, yet the better a runner you get, the more accurately you can tune that pace change so that in 430s you are 1 mile away, rather than in 440s. I don't tend to get caught short as I tend to avoid drinking for about an hour before runs too, mainly from a stitch point of view, though early morning runs I can fall foul of that one. |

One of the benefits of living in a rural area is that there tend to be opportunities to step 'off road' to alleviate the bladder, which I agree on non-race long runs is due to 2 pints of water plus a coffee in the hour pre-run and not having any desire to be up earlier than 5.15am for a 6.30am run. As far as Tesco goes, apparently, Every Little Helps

Oscar - me too. Though when I have occasionally done an urban run (or even canal or trail at a time when there are commuters or more dog walkers) I've been caught out that I couldn't just stop whenever I wanted to. Oh the inconvenience! But doesn't usually affect me in races. Even though I still hydrate right up to start, including caffeinated drinks. Maybe I've just been lucky enough to have my last pit stop close enough to start time. G |

I suspect it is because you are concentrating hard on something else which on a normal day of running you are not. The brain is very good at prioritising need to the extent that when one does remember it is often a pressing need!

A quick check of my best Age-Graded times (in your Race Portfolio https://www.fetcheveryone.com/wava.php; new addition it seems) reveals that my best ever marathon performance is 41st on my all time list of race performances from a total of 94 races. The list is dominated by 10k performance (13 of my top 16) despite the fact that I have done 20 10ks, 17 halfs and 17 full marathons of which a few would have been off road. So one might expect it to be more evenly spread but I suspect it means I don't have speed endurance!

My best WAVAs have been recent 5ks during the period I've upped my mileage, and beyond one 10m race (where I wasn't intent on going full bore) I've not raced anything else in the meanwhile, so hopefully I'll address the balance shortly. A PB in the 10k pre-marathon race would likely be at least a 72%, but if I hit my marathon best case target that'll only bring in a 68% score. Laughably, the "parity" score to equal my 74% for a 5k is a 3:00:23 marathon, a time I won't be getting near anytime unless I'm on a bike or in a car. |
