Yeah SPR that,s what I read but interpreted differently eg 3mins 20 secs for l,arbre based on training. Ignores the barriers at the 90 left, the proximity of spectators restricting the view, how sober said speccies are, weather, opposition etc. Seems to know what sort of power will need to put out to achieve the time but if Sep pushes along the top straight, for example, into the usual left crosswind will Wiggins react or will he just maintain his power aiming to meet the 3.20 ideal, forgetting the at the 90 it will be a headwind and may mean he won,t get him back. Bit convoluted reasoning but hope you can see my thinking behind earlier post. |

I think you've read it wrong. The times come from watching previous races, so he is using those time to train. TBH, the velo headline is silly and I assume is just to keep the theme of "the methodical Sky approach". In answer to whether he sit or follow an attack, by a contender, in the Guardian article linked in the Velo one, Wiggins says: “I’m better physically than when I was ninth last year, but the question is whether it translates to anything. It’s about committing on the day. You’ve all seen it; when I’m committed I’m right in there, when I’m not I’m dawdling at the back being dropped on climbs. “The good thing for me is that there is no excuse not to do it. In the past there were always reasons – looking to the Tour, Romandie, the Dauphiné – but doing the hour record seven weeks later is no reason to sit up in Roubaix. “You have to put yourself in position for the sectors. When you approach Arenberg or – in the Tour of Flanders – the Kwaremont, you’re going at 65km/h (40mph), counting down the distance – 300m to get there, 200, 100 – you know you are going to hit them at 60km/h (37mph) and if you are fifth or 10th wheel you will be OK. If you’re in 20th you start thinking it’s not fun anymore and that’s when you slip back. That’s where the commitment comes in. You have to put everything out of your mind. You have to be willing to die for the cause.” Sounds to me like he thinks (correctly), that position is king. The whole article is a good read: theguardian.com |

Interesting article, I hadn,t read that until now. When Maggy won he told us at the club that Baldato and Tafi kept him in the first 15 all the way along and they knew that on this section he needed to be on this side of the peloton out of the wind, the next here and so on. It helped that he felt that he didn,t gave a chain on that day, he said, so he could move around easily throughout the race. If anything he was in better condition in 2005 but only had Nicola Loda to help him to 4th overall being dropped on l,arbre. I hope that Sky look after their leaders as well in a week,s time whatever time they take on each section. |

He was up the road in a break at the time. Not like he was going to win it from there but he was getting some good publicity. To be fair he's going to get more column inches after this but it's not the way you'd want to get your sponsors exposure. |

FFS! A second neutral car has hit the back of the FDJ team car as it was stopping to help one of their rider. Knocked the car into the rider and waiting now to see who it is and whether they can continue. Both cars now out of the race. Who is employing these neutral car drivers? |
