Seems a dumb question to put in an appraisal. Is the idea to appraise every year how ambitious one is about the future? An appraisal to me means evaluation of performance, typically annually.

I’ve got a PDR (an appraisal by another name) due next month - we have them six-monthly. That could be interesting for two reasons. One is my intention to go part time next spring, and the other is I don’t have a boss - currently report directly to my nominal boss’s boss.

we now have a section on our appraisals for similar - it's supposed to encourage conversations so that you can get support with your development

At my last appraisal I said I had no career ambitions but wanted to prepare to race at an international masters' competition. I didn't say I was going to flounce out of the NHS but I did indicate that I was glad I'd kept the option of doing so.

Morning, can I pop in for a coffee & retirement chat?
I am a little way off retirement but am also looking to get out of the rat race as soon as it is financially viable.
I know nothing about pensions, other than I have one and its final salary (a rare beast these days)
I am applying for another job, kind of external to my current company but part of our business group so I'm hoping my pension would transfer.
Am I best speaking to my company pension team to talk about options or would an independent financial adviser be better?
I want to start planning for the next few years as otherwise I am conscious the time will slip by unnoticed and find ourselves very little further forward other than the time lost. Thanks

just looking at the appraisal chats, our PDR's ask same question, I've been rather vocal that I intend to leave when I'm 55 under the early retirement scheme, that gives me a little over 2 years. No reaction from the bosses - but as I've said above that may be irrelevant to them if current plan B comes off.

GG - get an independant. A Company pension team may act to the benefit of the company and persaude you to do something not in your own best interest.
I only say this because I've had companies I work for try to persuade me to transfer pensions from one scheme to another, with no seeming long term benefit to me. But removing a whole heap of liability from the Company concerned.

gg - if you're happy sharing (and trusting their confidence keeping), I'd ask the in house team first. They should be able to give fairly quick response as to what would happen to your pernsion - just continue as is, transfer or become deferred.

If you’re choosing to move as opposed to moving by TUPE / a business decision then I’d be surprised if a legacy pension arrangement would be honoured.

Job appraisals and the '2 years time' question? As a responder, I generally answered 'getting paid more, based on my contribution to the company'. As a manager, it was all about listening, discussing development plans and/or mentor options if needed.
But I always thought the appraisals were (and should be) a box ticking exercise. if anything needed saying or doing, it should happen at the time, not be saved up for a once a year session.
