Different topic ... life expectancy. I am about to buy some cloud storage. Mainly for my photos. £100 annual subscription or £350 for life (max 99 years) Since I topped up my NI, which was (if I recall) about a 5 or 6 year ROI, although that may change with inflation, it seems logical to get the lifetime one. And maybe change my will .. "I leave my mega terabytes of cloud storage to ..." |

Thanks for the thoughts, I will give the pension team a call and see what they say and will organise a FA as we do need to think about the bigger plans, one of which is to buy a house we would downsize into and rent it out until we feel the need to leave here. Fields its not TUPE, the other part of the business has a role advertised that is technically my old role albeit it would be a shared role with ability to focus on things properly. My colleagues who moved under the split they kept their pensions and length of service. I am excited at the thought I might move back with the old team, but equally a bit scared of leaving the comfort blanket I have here. |

GG - get an independant. A Company pension team may act to the benefit of the company and persaude you to do something not in your own best interest. I only say this because I've had companies I work for try to persuade me to transfer pensions from one scheme to another, with no seeming long term benefit to me. But removing a whole heap of liability from the Company concerned. Advice is highly regulated and anyone who did give bad advice is likely to get into some trouble. It is possible but unlikely, especially from a company team More likely from a rogue adviser or pensions scam but if you go with an adviser find a reputable one. Pensions advice especially around transfers can be expensive. |

Thanks Bazo we have a FA in mind one that has been advising other family members for a few years. I kind of want the potential new company to just tell me if it can be transferred but I guess I will have to be patient. I could ask people I know who've moved after the new company formed but I dont want to have disclose my intent to move as you know what jungle drums are like.

Fizz :-)
I would suspect that if they formally TUPE’d across, it is a different company, and you would lose your current pension.

Going back to appraisals we haven’t had one since lockdown 2020 but again we have that question on ours and I always write lying on a beach in Barbados. With a a bit of luck I can say it for real this year as we used to get our appraisal in early Dec so all going well I will have retired in the November. Not that I intend going to Barbados but I could .

I’ve not had once since 2019 but my employment has been patchy since then. Personally I’d happily never have another one

I recall my first appraisal in 1986 had a series of tick boxes on a 1-5 scale. One of the questions had a series of which two of the options were leader of the pack or one of the flock. Sure I still have a copy somewhere.
