I’ve got a built in safe in my house so could store paperwork there but I think deeds are all virtual these days I’m a long way off paying off the mortgage (26 years 11 months) but I don’t need to worry about my fixed rate until 2032 which is helpful. I’ve started overpaying by £1 per month, just to have a record of overpayments. At the moment it’s not feasible to repay more. |

I quite liked getting the deeds and stuff. It made me feel at last like I was *actually* a homeowner, plus you are finally on the Land Registry with no charges against your property.

um
The deeds/rights went fully digital (in England, not sure if other nations have their own rules) in April 2018. I'm not sure if there's any transfer of historic records, or whether only done at the next transaction?

Writing of deeds and Land Registry, it is worth setting up a property alert on your home propertyalert.landregistry.gov.uk so you can be notified if someone else tries to claim the property as their own and then sell it (it happens! That is why the service has been set up).

I'm looking forward to having the problem of deciding to pay off or leave £1 balance. I won't tell you what the balance is just now, but it's eye watering! But overpayments willing, we'll pay it off in 5 years. It's got 10 to run without overpayments. Wanting to have a chat with the missus about what life looks like in 5 years with no mortgage, no loans, no electricity bill (getting solar). She'll be 60, I'll be 58, would be good to know if we can ease off a bit in the money worries stakes. Will def still have to work, but could it be cut down at least?! G |

I was looking forward to the deeds but realise that all that happens these days is that the charge is removed...
