It could also be Mr Pix over inflating and stressing (as he does!). I was always fairly happy he was OK to retire at 60 but he wasn't
we have a decent amount of savings but he always worries!

I’m still going towards a 60 retirement date 2030 (mortgage should be gone by 2026/7).
The company could have their plans to give people VS. Been Maxing out the AVCs since 2018.
Currently on my own but I have a few potential suitors 😜

I think he might be, Pix. As you with two of you in the house the energy usage will be fairly economical. Mr Ness and I are lucky because we got extra cavity wall insulation put in for free when the scheme was being done a few years ago. That’s made a real difference.

I've just changed two of my pots that were still set to 55 to retirement age of 65. Much more realistic! I can take it out earlier if I want, but I feel I will def be working until 60, likely beyond.
Next challenge is do I choose to take a permanent job (I've worked on 6 month contracts for a long time). Less money, but shouldn't get fired for being old. (Obviously when contracting, someone is looking at my CV every 6 months (or 1 - 2 years when I'm applying). Age shouldn't be a factor, but...! I am going to take my school and uni dates and first jobs off my CV though. Even if my DoB isn't on it, graduating in 1991 and having 31 years of constant work history is a bit of a give away!
The hunt for the missing 3 years continues. Letters written to Phoenix (Bazo) in Peterborough because lady on the phone said "we can't see the system with the really old ones on it!" G

My boss, a DCI of whom I am very fond, has just been posted effective mid June. The new chap I know vaguely and do not have a high opinion of. *And* he's a helmet.
Ten months three days to go.

Indeed Llamo. But thanks. I'm not planning to spend the next months moping or wishing my life away.

Nice to get your decision to go validated by external circumstances.
Almost four weeks in for me, no more work in the offing, and it's flown by. I haven't clockwatched at all apart from in the swimming pool (I was aware that even though I didn't mind my job it was the only time I found myself wishing my life away). Still need to progress my NHS pension application. It's too easy to go from "loads and loads of time" to "it's too late for this time round, wait another year".

And I thought, "Do it now while I'm waiting for the rain to stop so that I can go out for my run," and had an unexpectedly helpful PCSE encounter. Apparently all my paperwork is up to date and in perfect order at their end and they will do their bit, let me know when it's done, and I can submit my application to NHSPS.
I'm hoping I'll get over feeling guilty that other people are working and I'm not. This isn't new. Even when I was working long hours, on my days off from work if I went out on my bike and saw the farmers working in the fields, or went into a shop or tearoom, I'd feel guilty that at that moment those people were having to work and my time was my own. Fucking scripts. I'm sure my parents meant well, but I hope I haven't given that script to any of my own children.
