So, there was an in-office event today - whole department supposed to be there. Lunch provided. I didn't go in. Oops. Turns out they've spent the best part of three hours in break-out groups brainstorming a mission statement. Oh dear. What a shame I missed it. Never mind, eh? |

Sigh
I declined similar events in the run-up to my retirement, it's quite liberating!

I recall, a number of years ago, attending the first inset day when a new headteacher started at a school I was in and the first thing he put on the agenda for the day was for us to write a 'mission statement' for the school. I should have realised then that that was a sign to start looking for another job! 🙁

I’ve failed at getting a couple of jobs because I don’t blow smoke out my ar$e and attribute success to the team that made it work rather than say ‘I’ did X bit of that’s what it takes so be it. One job I was turned down for, an auditor role, (& I know I’d have been bloody good at it as they said the same!) Was because I didn’t know what my exit plan was aka what job I wanted next! FFS the goal posts are floating in the air. |

3M, my current client isn't the worst example of corporates that promote the wrong behaviours and people. You'll be glad to hear as you exit stage left! All imho, etc, caveats, other opinions are available etc! G

One of my biggest US customers before I retired was very liberal in his attitudes - he was especially scathing of Trump getting elected (first time), but said many people in his company (well known global pharma) and the rest of corporate America with the same personality traits were reaching the most senior levels. He retired the year after me!

The great thing about retirement is that you can go to the cinema and watch children’s film without there being any children there. Just another forty odd other retirees. #Paddington 3

I have "got on" by hard work, determination, moving across the country several times and sheer bloody mindedness. Am absolutely rubbish at networking, diplomacy, sucking up to people etc. |
