The measure of economically active may be all about production, but surely it *should* include spending power though - otherwise how are those in hospitality/tourism 'Productive' if there are no customers to buy the tea and cake or take a ride on the lake steamer. My spending allows others to be productive - and in taking mum and her friends out - for instance, enables others spending too.

Agree that spending is important, and "economically (in)active" isn't that intuitive a descriptor. It also considers unemployed people who are seeking work as "active". Anyway, retirees are only a small proportion of the economically inactive (13% according to Full Fact, the rest being students, home-makers, and long-term sick), and early retirees obviously much smaller still. It's not all our fault! |

but we are an easy target and don't come under 'hardworking families' - am waiting to hear that NI will be put on my pension which will serve to curb my coffeee/cake and race entering habits |

I've decided to remain economically active (sorry) for another 6 months. @Sigh please could you move me along in the waiting lounge to join @Bazoaxe in June 2025. I'm looking forward to having some good weather to accompany my retirement.

Indeed @Bazoaxe. I think most of the sub3:15 group were(/are) younger than us. PtB must be semi-retired with the amount of golf he's playing since retiring from running.

Interesting thought on being retired affecting the economy but read your description JDA def feels a wrong measure. I fully expect to be spending more locally when I don’t have work because I’ll have more time to be out in the local towns coffee shops, buying in different shops to just the supermarket etc and when the highstreet is open. I went to pay money in the bank a couple of Saturdays ago and it’s closed on a Saturday and estate agents close half day! I have had a rubbish time at work that was pushing me to April 2025 for retiring but I want to leave on my terms so remapping my work brain (helped by my boss seeing the issues I’m having and helping) and I think it will be April 2026 but if it doesn’t work then it will be sometime after October 2025 I want to have one last time seeing my wider community colleagues and go out with a celebration! So if possible can we update my target date to April 2026 please And no 1 when I was born was apparently Sugar Sugar by the Archie’s. I’m sure last time I looked it was different to that |

I can't believe @paul the builder PtB doesn't run any more. That still does not compute! Boo to delay to retirement B Rub, but glad that it's your choice. I'm going to keep talking about retirement, but I can only see it going one way and being delayed for me. Tax and spend are high and income won't be going any way but down. Hey ho. G
