I'm hoping to get a bus pass to reduce my fuel costs, when I get to that age! The buses around here aren't bad but they are typically more expensive than car parking if there are two adults travelling together.

I've been happily playing with my spreadsheets today. It looks like we're okay for funds until I get to about 101 Years old, unless I've misunderstood/ forgotten something!

I don’t know where you are 3M but most buses have been subsidised at £2 a fare for a while now. I know some bus companies aren’t part if it, but most are.

Mrs Jigs (Luverlylegs)
I will miss the fuel allowance but it seems fair to me.

Same here Mrs J - it was nice to have but we can manage without it.

Ness
Mr Ness got winter fuel payment last year. He agrees that its better that it should be taken away and prioritised for people who really need it. At the moment we tend to walk rather than use buses, even though Mr Ness is eligible for a bus pass. It would be useful here if he bothered to apply for it, cos the bus service is pretty good. When I become eligible I plan for us to be living elsewhere (in a location where bus passes may or may not be relevant! ) but that's a fair way off yet.

um
Bus pass use ? Mine has been almost holiday use, getting to or from an SWCP start/finish point. Until a few weeks ago when I did use it locally to get home and back to Kwikfit whie the car exhaust brackets were fixed.
I suspect keeping fares at £2 is a better and more productive option though.
Winter fuel? I missed it in my first year at 66, I was born 2 weeks after the cut off date for the year. This year Off Roader was going to 2 weeks inside the cut off date. So that won't matter now.

um - I agree the £2 fare is a better option. Can't use the bus pass at certain times in England, I think it's only valid after 9:30 weekdays. Can't be used on some late night bus journeys, but my clubbing days are over so that's not an issue.😂

My mam and dad get so much use out of their bus passes. Pre covid they would do to our town and wait for a bus whichever came in determined where they’d go for the day they had some great days out.
Our bus service do the £2 fares just takes that long to get anywhere but last time I went to Newcastle it’s getting hard to navigate the change of access and get parked. I paid for parking and still got a fine as I used the wrong parking meter!
Sounds like you’re sorted 3M
