Our flex time was removed years ago and replaced with a 35 hrs per week but expectation you work the hours to do the job. These were always more than 35 hrs, never less albeit in theory you could do less if there was a quiet week. Haha

Yes, my contract stated a minimum of 35 hours but ‘as the service demands’ so as many hours as it takes. No overtime payment.

Our contracts said something along the lines of working a "reasonable" number of hours to ensure the job got done. Of course that is way over the paid 30 hours a week for a teacher. I once worked out that I was getting less than the minimum wage for the hours the job required as, when I became a Head Teacher, I was typically working 70+ hours a week.

I was about to say similar to GM^ the "Burgundy Book" (aka the National Conditions of Service for Teachers in England and Wales) had the statement that a schools "must open for 195 days, of which a classroom teacher can only be directed by the headteacher to work for up to a maximum of 1,265 hours over 195 days of the year." But there was also a clause that said about a reasonable number of hours to complete your role. In my first teaching job (which was the first four years on my career) the headteacher gave us a statement at the start of each year listing how many hours were allocated to teaching, staff meetings, inset days, parents evenings etc. He was the only one who did that though. |

My UB job was a 40 hr week No overtime I did 20 part time Any overtime was paid at normal rate when I was part time … when full time the only overtime available was weekends Like most teachers I was working 7 days a week as I did several hours at weekends, plus evenings and holidays so as GM said under minimum wage |

I did that for my teaching staff when I was a Head, Ness - it put a stop to all the griping that some of the staff I inherited were doing when I expected them to attend a staff meeting most weeks. They weren't in the habit of having staff training. |

It was a good idea, GM, because then you knew where you stood.

More bad news as another acquaintance from the local running community lost her husband suddenly of a stroke at 60 🥲.
