170 days in Portugal spread over three visits plus breaks in Majorca and Salamanca and an interrail tour of europe taking in Paris, Munich, Prague, Dresden, Berlin and Cologne. Life is great

That's impressive. How do you get round the 90 day rule?

We have Portuguese residency (under Article 50 of the withdrawal agreement), so we can go in and out of Portugal as often as we like for as long as we like - buying our apartment in 2020 was the best decision we ever made. Portugal was also the most welcoming country to immigrants.

I am very jealous. The 90 day rule is so restrictive.

We have friends doing a 7 month holiday to South America (he's been retired 2 years but she just retired 2 weeks ago). How are they avoiding 90 day rule then ( I know they have no overseas residency)? :-) G

We did 12 months in the USA with a 6 months visa extended to 12 months once we'd been there a couple of months. It didn't prevent a hairy few ours with border guards near the Mexican border.

Depends on where they are going. Peru lets people in for up to 6 months at a time, for example. Most other S. American countries let you in for 90 days at a time.

I'm currently trying to find out if my Irish ancestry qualifies me for an Irish passport.

Then I'll be an EU citizen and those rules won't apply
