My son and Dil would be in a pickle if I unretired. If that ever became the case I could charge them for everything I do

As Rosehip said Dobbers. The trial bloody well worked from your perspective! If they’ve admitted recruitment issues then you have the stronger negotiating position.

Time for another meeting in which you explain the 5 day week doesn’t work for you, which is why you went to 4 days, so the discussion is 4 days or your notice period…..

Can you compromise on 4 longer days, Dobbers? Their recruitment problem isn't going to be offset by you working an extra 7.5 hours a week.

I'd also ask them to allow you to take unpaid leave to allow you to fulfill your plans for May and July. Given that they didn't give you any indication that this change was imminent, they should cut you some slack.

I'd ask them for some notice about going back to 5 days. Get 4 weeks out of them explaining that the recruitment problem is theirs, not yours to solve. Their urgency is not your emergency so you'll need time to adjust back to 5 days a week.

Then book every Friday off you can until it's time to quit anyway.

That’s poor show if today is the first time it’s been mentioned and it’s with immediate effect.

Sadly not much you can do about it other than leave though.
