Question/opinions please
I’m forming a plan I am in 1 months notice but boss has courses and holidays so I’m thinking/hoping to say I will finish in June.
Do I say last day is a Friday … the last day of boss’s holiday …. Or the Monday to allow a “hand over”?
I doubt that this will be a full retirement but hoping for a long break.

Bollocks to the handover; that's their problem not yours.
Or say that you want to finish on the Friday but will come in on the Monday if it helps. That way it will al be downhill from the moral high ground into retirement.

Pix - do what suits you. Normally notice is one calendar month plus/minus any holiday adjustments, just state in your notice letter your last day of work. They'll get round it, even if it means a couple of phone calls to catch up.
If they need/want you to work a couple of extra days fir handover they can ask nicely 😉

No harm in giving slightly more than the bare min notice (better than giving too little and having to change plans!), but pick your last day to suit yourself.

Thanks Just need to see if I can sort it I’m hoping to take 4-6 months off at least
I may call the tax man say I’m retiring and get all my tax back as I should get a bonus this month which will mean a big chunk lost to tax! If I do work after I’ll try that swimming idea I had but it would be nice to not go back to work

um
Does finishing on (eg) 1st July (Monday) give you any extra holiday days? If so you could get 2 or 3 extra days pay on top?
Or take the last week or so as holiday to stretch into 1-Jul.
But, as others have said, do what suits you.

Unless you have complete trust or contractual evidence, I would wait until your bonus is in your bank account before declaring your intentions to take a break / retire.

Good idea re. The tax, Pix. My last working day was in a December. I didn't get round to claiming the overpaid tax until the April of the next year! 🙄😂
