Under Scottish law you can't disinherit your children, jda, and my parents wanted to make sure there could be no legal challenge to their will so they took appropriate advice rather than bypassing my generation completely.
I didn't get anything from my grandparents. They didn't have anything. I don't imagine my children will have seen anything left by their other grandparents, for their father and his brother are both exceptionally avaricious.

Oh I see, you mean they get the inheritance, subject to your legal rights. You can of course disclaim your rights either unilaterally or together with your other siblings if you really want. I think it may be fairly normal to not bother to mention the rights, and you can just assume that where appropriate they will be allocated prior to the remainder of the estate being disposed of according to the will. That's what happened in my dad's case, anyway - my brother and I were not explicitly left anything, but still got our share...

My Nov pay from NHS ( on Friday ) will see me through Dec as usual
My credit card and mortgage pay off will be paid from my Arcadia pay out ( the rest I will invest ) and then the lump sum from NHS will be used/saved/investment as I see fit. Any inheritance I then get from my dad will will be shared between myself and my son so he can have some now.
I think I will be OK. I've just used my car for the first time in days so already a petrol save. I'm having a free Costa with my saved beans and any future coffees will be a rare treat rather than a breakfast on my way to work.

I think my cafe 'coffee and a cake' consumption has shot up since semi retirement.
While working the limiter was time (always rushing about, never time to sit down and relax in a cafe) and also a strange resentment that the cost was coming out of 'hard earned' salary so felt frivolous in comparison.
With most of my income now a payout not linked to any current work it just seems....easier....to blow it in sitting in a nice independent cafe on a brew and a nice cake.
Weird and unexpected!

I blew a lot of my winter fuel allowance on 2 new pairs of shoes in the Black Friday sales. Well, running helps keep you warm, doesn't it?

My dad's a bit cross that winter fuel allowance is given to people like him who can already afford to have their heating on. I expect he will drip feed it into the various charities he and Mum supported.
