We don’t think this is our forever home, it’s not a house to be old in, but we’re not sure where we might end up. WW dreams of the seaside, but that tends to be full of tourists!

We're 20 miles from the nearest proper hospital, but on a direct bus route. And much further from the nearest department in some specialties. It's not unusual for people to have to travel to the north east or Lancashire for medical treatment.

My son and daughter-in-law live so far away from a 'proper' hospital, daughter-in-law gave birth in an ambulance in a layby the side of the A1. :)

I was perfectly happy until this cancer diagnosis. Up to now I have rarely needed a hospital. I am staying put right now. We just have to hope an hour away is ok in the long run... I used to be a first responder and said: if you need a&e fast, call mountain rescue: they turn up with a helicopter, which can land in the field next door...

Flatlander , no, at my regular eye test in May the Optician picked up on something behind my right eye, I had an initial hospital check on 1 June, this was the follow up. Seems I had some burst blood vessels behind my eye, thankfully they're clearing up on their own. Cause unknown; my blood pressure and cholesterol are both ok.

I got a letter yesterday saying to set up my on line service with Aviva as I will be offered a final one payment to close my Arcadia pension by the end of September.

Our next door neighbour is one of the two local GPs, and the surgery is a couple of minutes walk. The ambulance station is a few minutes drive away. Nearest A&E is just short of an hour's drive though. Attending hospital by regular public transport would take several hours in each direction.

In fairness, when we lived in Cambridge, the nearest hospital could've been anywhere between 10 minutes and an hour away, depending on time of day.

My BIL is a taxi driver and often picks up people from the Airport, flown in from the Isle of Man for hospital appointments in Liverpool. Takes em back once they've been seen to - usually via a few shops :-)

See, I am staying put :) I deem myself close enough to a&e, especially if driven in by a friend or calling a helicopter i.e. mountain rescue.
I used to be in the MRT AND I was an ambulance first responder. I know what works 😎

it's helpful to have "inside" knowledge. ;-)
I find my science background helpful to me for my problems. :-)
