I've read Orlando but that was only because I had seen the film first.

Having now watched Chernobyl I am compounding my horror, despair and awe by reading Chernobyl Prayer, by Svetlana Alexievich. It's a collection of accounts by people who were there and it was the basis for the series. On the one hand you are humbled by the immense courage shown and on the other, despairing at the stupidity and 'patriotism' on display. It's a book I won't forget in a hurry.

I’ve started Prisoners of Geography by Tim Marshall. It’s interesting but listening it’s hard to assimilate all the details. Also, the narrator speaks very slowly with big gaps between each word. I’m listening on x1.25 and I think I could go to 1.5!without losing anything.

Back to Karamazov, vol 2. Only first I'm re-reading the last few pages of vol 1, as it's a long time since I put it down and my memory wants jogging.

You've put me off that one now Dio. Maybe I won't copy you... I look at that book every time I go in Waterstones though.

No, don’t let me put you off. It’s definitely worth reading. I’ve done the same thing in Guildford Waterstones.

I mean 'put me off the audiobook version' I suppose. I may still buy the physical thing.

Just back from Raynor Winn. We didn’t ask the questions as everybody else in the room said it was the most inspirational book they’d ever read.

However, our joint instincts as regards the answers were:
About 50%
About 50%
Never (apart from the fact that I live there)

We’re pretty certain that Moth was at the back of the room, but we didn’t get the chance to talk to him.
