Josie Dew was working as a cook/chef in between trips, wasn't she? She has 3 kids now and cycle tours are all done in school holidays.

Tom Allen (not that one) is an interesting case. He does some writing, blogging and t he usual stuff but not enough that you'd think he'd be able to fund his lifestyle from it. Still and all, he's an engaging character, and not above offering one-to-one advice to yours truly by email when I've stuck on kit selection choices.

Lizzie - if I find it, it’s yours! Assuming you’re talking about the No Picnic book, that is. I’ll dig around a bit this weekend - can’t promise, as books are good at hiding sometimes.

Richard Powers - The overstory, is my current reading, and it's great, already moving, thought provoking and beautifully written. Can't tell where it's going to go, really interesting book structure.

I bought the first Paul Theroux (sp?) thing - the train across Asia one. I realise most people on this wire seem to hate him but I suspect I've never read him so I thought whyever not?
