Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I’ve just read another early Agatha Christie. Blimey - she grew up in public writing-wise, didn’t she? It’s the first Tuppence & Tommy book - The Secret Adversary. A good story, but so clunky and the dialogue is very dated. Quite a few “big” words thrown in for what feels the sake of it. Some very happy, but unlikely, coincidences which helped move the plot along. (Random people lying on the pavement, convenient hidey-holes.)

I never thought the Tommy and Tuppence stories were in the same league as the Poirot or Miss Marple stories. In some ways I'm surprised she didn't publish them under a different name.

Just finished Black Diamonds, the story of Wentworth Woodhouse and the fall of the Fitzwilliam family. Non-fiction but very readable, especially interesting for anyone with a working knowledge of S Yorks. Starting on The Beekeeper of Aleppo tonight.

Not a book, but based on a book. I’ve just re-watched The Night Manager and enjoyed it more than the first watch. I imagine the book holds even more intrigue, so will order it at the library.

I’m still reading the new Walter Mosley - Farewell Amethystine and have read the first 2 Saga graphic comics with the next 4 on my bedside table.

That's the one. It's the characters from The Searcher and I like them.
