You may want to note too that a lot of participants, including both walkers and runners, are not planning to complete the whole distance but have set themselves a target of reaching a specific castle by the end of September - or have set themselves no target at all and are just seeing where they get to.

I’m walking the vast majority of it phal. I think I’ve only run 5 miles this month but I’m past Hay Castle from walking miles logged.

I’m mostly walking. Not even at Pontypridd yet. I’m hoping to maybe get 3 or 4 castles before the end.

Some awesome placenames here too - Bishop's Castle, Cleobury Mortmor, Much Wenlock, Droitwich Spa and my own personal favourite, Clun.

I spent an exceptionally cold winter looking after horses in Cleobury Mortimer, once-upon-a-long-time ago. Local butcher was renowned for making amazing sausages. That part of the UK is the coldest place I've ever lived.
