3M - yes, but the argument from JRitchie is that we go "oh well, they've caused major climate change, causing war, sea level rise etc etc etc, but now they've done some token things we should let them have massive subsidies and tax breaks, because the O&G industry has it hard with the BILLIONS they're making and they couldn't possibly affording things like cleaning up after themselves to decommission things and the misinformation they fund is unimportant" If the oil majors all went, sorry, we got it wrong, we will shift *all* our funding into getting 100% renewables by 2032 and not take any tax breaks for cleaning up their mess (decommissioning) and of course, stop funding climate change denial, then I might be up for some truth and reconciliation. But they're still lying about their actions. |

Perhaps, to counter act the poison they've injected into the system (see: bbc.co.uk ), they could put a substantial sum (10x what they paid for the disinformation might do it) to promote the science behind climate change an its impacts and the importance of transitioning faster. They could also stop funding politicians to promte FF. But they aren't going to do that are they.... |

Energy Bill "cap" set to rise to about £3800 p.a. by January. That isn't a cap. It's gone up threefold since the beginning of this year. A lot of people are going to be in a lot of trouble over the winter. Wonder how many poor people are going to lose their lives this winter because of the governments inaction. Not good. Not good at all. |

Right, think I'm going to bite the bullet and stick solar on my roof - the price is now at the point where it's affordable, particularly with energy bills trebling in price. The difference is I'd like to put both PV and Thermal up there. Anyone done this? Should be doable given my roof space and the fact that solar thermal only requires ~2m2 roof space. I should be able to fit at least a 3.5kWp system on the remainder. If I can afford a battery too, I'm going to do that. |

Sounds good fozzy. I fifnt look at solar thermal so can't comment on that. Battery is worth doing even not doing thermal just to take advantage of cheaper off peak rates. G'luck. G

My electricity went from £64 to £94 and now £124... That means it has doubled while consumption is down on winter... How can they keep justifying these hikes? |

Broken "market" in my view Hann. They make money when wholesale prices are low by putting big margins on then when they should be "losing" money they just put the prices up and charge us, the consumer, more. Should be a national infrastructure, all converted to renewable and we only pay "cost plus" not profit for shareholders. But hey, that's capitalism for us! G

Erm. Not really in this instance. Whilst I'm not one to defend the energy suppliers.... The wholesale price of gas has significantly increased. So that's why the bills have increased. And it's not the wholesale suppliers (e.g. EON et al) that are making big money off this - it's the upstream companies - the Shells/BPs etc. |

You can see how much the price of gas has increased here: catalyst-commercial.co.uk This is why Solar is now extremely price competitive - oddly high gas prices are indicative of the gas death spiral (similar happened to coal) and will drive more people to renewables.... So bad in the short term for consumers, but good in the medium term for us. |
