Nope.

Politics has an awful lot to do with the fight to mitigate the worst effects of climate change

Brexit weakened that fight.

And pretty much a whole host of other environmental aspects too.

Fozzy - please don’t bother replying any further to my question unless you have something constructive to add.

Fields - I have a 2.5kwh system that is slightly in the wrong position installed 12 years ago and roughly paid about 400gbp per year on electricity per year for a 3 bed semi-detached with 4 people living in it..... in the first 3 years was about 100gbp/year until they changed my meter (used to be payg)

I have also put leds everywhere; get everyone to turn off stuff. However my people seem to be having more and more devices.

You prob use around 2500kWh per year Fozzy. 4kW of panels and a 3.5kWh battery will prob cost about £4k + £4k respectively. Bills per year would have been eg @ 20p /kWh £500 per year, but with charges rising to eg 40p / kWh £1000 per year. So pay back in 8 years?

Scotland gov - don't know if England does the loan?

Fozzy, mate, I totally agree, policy is an important, nay critical, part of addressing the climate crisis. And it looks bleak, we're probably foing far too little. But you can still be constructive in your presentation of facts to us. I know you like sources, so rather than just, "nope, we're stuffed" you're be better telling us why?

Large scale solar, wind and tidal, with large scale storage, transition of transport to electric and hydrogen, massive reduction in consumer consumption, waste and travel, reducing human population and technologies to actively remove carbon from the atmosphere MAY reduce the impacts and even begin the reversal.

I don't have a source for the above, just opinion based on all the hard work that is being done, albeit with too little results.

That's what we have to advocate for and all of the scientists and ethical politicians and activists are trying to do. Just saying "we're doomed" is not acceptable . Imho. Other views are available etc!

Well some parts of government still function. Yesterday 7GW CfDs were awarded paving the way (hopefully) to financial close and construction. 2 in Scotland and will see the first 14MV turbine deployed commercially.

Fields, I have been given similar figures to Happy. I am in England... Live alone in a 2 bed open plan building and a separate but connected with services practice building so pretty similar.

I was also told prices are going to come down in the next couple of years so to better wait.

Very possible Hann - I always buy at the worst time (highest price, miss all the deals and incentives!) However, also very glad that we won't be dependent on UK electricity prices (driven by global fuel prices) soon.

Sounds good JR. :-) G

About This Thread

Maintained by HappyG(rrr)
Hi
I've seen environment (whether emissions, power, climate change, access to countryside, whatever you think of as "environment") discussed in various threads: Politics (obviously), the Electric Car thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/electric-car-anyone-61481/ , run free's excellent "Competitive Running and Keeping The Environment Clean" fetcheveryone.com/forum/running-competitively-keeping-our-environment-clean-60907/ my own Greta Thunberg thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/greta-thunberg---jfk-for-the-climate-generation-61044/ etc. but I haven't seen a general one.

So here it is. For those interested in the science, the politics, the action for (and I'll state that for me, this is mostly pro-environment, anti-emissions, anti-pollution etc.) and the hope for the future of our planet.
