It seems to work for me for shifting weight. I'm not great at watching the nutrition though, probably because I've been busy recently and haven't made the effort. Trying to improve that. I have Monday, Wednesday and Friday as fast days, though probably eat closer to 800 than 500 and go to the gym first thing (as I'll have some energy from the eat-lots days before). I have Saturday and Sunday off, and do my long run on Sunday. On fast days I consume mostly soya lattes and soup (trying to make that more homemade veg soup and less of the cup-o varieties which probably have the nutritional value of thin air).

My running isn't great at the moment, tbh, but I think that's more to do with moving house and having flu over Xmas/New Year and being generally a bit run down. And, maybe, those cup-o-soups...

Whoa! Loads of you here now that's great, I hope you lose lbs and gain the benefits. I was ill over Christmas and stopped my fasting to regain strength but it seems one thing after the other, I'm a working mum now which is very new to me so I'm still trying to get a good routine going at home which is hard with three kids and a puppy! Will pop in and out to check everyone's progress and hopefully I'll be joining in again soon.

Fast day today. On second cup of tea, no breakfast, salad for lunch with fat free dressing and cottage cheese. Totals about 150 cals! Yay salad! Stir fry for tea - veg have minimal cals, all the cals come from the noodles and sauce.

Good going Mikuro.

I suppose the thing about the stir fry is to measure the oil precisely?

Good going Mikuro :-)

I read about this in Style magazine (the one with the Sunday Times) and am thinking about giving it a go as it actually seems to work.

What I was wondering is do you only do the fast diet until you reach a goal weight or is this a genuine change in lifestyle which you'll do forever? If it is only until you reach a goal weight, what happens once your there, do you think a return to normal everyday eating will mean a weight increase?

Just started reading the book but I think you drop to 1 fast a week so you still get the health benefits

Jambomo normal every day eating shouldn't be leading to weight gain in the first place...any sustainable weight loss HAS to be accompanied by a lifestyle change to the extent that you stop doing whatever it was which led you to gain weight in the first place.

What I like about this approach is that it doesn't label foods as bad or ban you from eating certain things - so you don't get that feeling of deprivation which might accompany diets where you cut certain things out entirely for a while then can tend to go overboard again as soon as you're "off" the diet.

Anyone want to try it with me?

Info - m.bbc.co.uk

5 days of 'normal' eating and 2 days eating 600 calories (men), 500 calories (women).

Fast days are best not done on consecutive days, unless you have amazing willpower.
