Great news Stef and Andy. I love to hear of people getting in who are really excited about it. Just one iRL person that I know who has a place. They are also apprehensive and excited in equal measure.

And for those who didn't the Stevenage marathon this autumn ( only held every 10years) is down to just a few dozen places left.

Thanks DocM. I saw your entry for this one in the race listings and signed up a few days ago. Had been thinking of doing the half but the marathon proved too tempting!

Great news for Stef and Andy. Like DocM only know of one person who has got in and have been asked for a training plan so will be partially involved and invested in any case. I am however thinking about a charity place. I know I could run elsewhere but have a very personal reason why I want to do London for my last marathon.

@DocM Will definitely seek you out and say hello! Will you be marshalling it, or is there a chance you might be running it too?

I'm running the half and then supporting my fellow club runners as they finish... We have nearly 40 entered for the marathon, plus lots of other friends from other local clubs. So will certainly be there to see you home to glory.

Sounds good. I ran the half a couple of times more than 10 years ago and I think it was 2 laps at the time, though it looks like it might be a different route now, with 1 lap for the half and 2 for the marathoners?

My other memory of the Stevenage Half was that it rained both times I did it, though I don't mind that too much, particularly compared to running in the heat at the moment!

Thats correct funky C . Different route to the usual route, one lap for the half and two for the marathon. The route has now been published.

For anyone who didn't make it through the ballot and still wants a shot at a place, however slim, there seem to be 10 places available by 'signing up' at New Balance before midnight on 26 July. T&Cs suggest it's open only to those who applied and were unsuccessful, and a link was provided in the email from TCS, though I don't remember seeing it:

https://www.newbalance.co.uk/running/featured/tcs-london-marathon/#

In the TCS email, there was an 'Abbott and Lingo' link to win one of two places (entries close 15 July).

Aside from that, Coopah are also offering a place (entries close 12 August):

coopah.com

I appreciate people may not want to register with any of these if it means the possibility of getting spam emails, but they all appear to be legitimate competitions run by sponsors, so if anyone wants to keep the dream alive a little bit longer, it may be worth a shot.
