Hello! You are in good company here. We are all students or have been recently students, and some of us work in HE now.

Found out earlier this week that I have a job back where I came from before I started my training. Well kind of..... I will be expected to work across the whole of the speciality of head and neck not just Opthalmology 😕 It is good news as they are developing the whole area and my previous manager wants me to be 'trail blazer' and I will learn a whole host of new skills.
The position of head and neck specialist nurse was mentioned as being in future of the new department too. The only thing that freaks me out is the teeth being pulled 😳 (Childhood trauma no details but means I've not been b ack to dentist since 2007 when the threat of tooth removal was mentioned) I felt sick when they told me and palms went all sweaty etc 😳😳 I'm determined to get over it though as it is my dream job I can't even contemplate working anywhere else.
I will be expected to scrub for all procedures local and general as well as recovery. I will need to do additional competencies for IV's also. They will support me to go further with my training but want a commitment from me in the department for about 12-18 months first. I also got a lovely message from my manager saying how happy she is I'm coming back, she can't think of a better ambassador for the new project and that I'll bring my high standards and give it my all. To have confidence in my abilities as she has every faith in me 😯.... Gawd no pressure to perform well then!!
So I now have to make sure I pass this course! Essay is biggest issue as again it's academic writing which I struggle with but I can get passed. Medication exam needs 100% next week. I also have placement to pass. Had formative yesterday which was good. My 'assessor' is lovely. I hadn't even thought about other people giving feedback to her Ive just Bern getting on with the job but she says she's getting consistently good feedback and she's not going to fail me. She says I'm not suddenly going to become the total opposite of who I am. I've got my action plan for the summative and without noticing too much I've been getting pushed into a lot of situations and coping well 😊

Well done EB - shows you have the respect & confidence of others. Re feedback - not in that type of assessment situation - but I regularly used to 'tease' my manager at review times that I ws assuming there was no negative feedback, becasue if so, why wasn't it made at the time so I could improve or correct it. I suspect that approach also applies in clinical conditions? If you needed to improve something, wouldn't/shouldn't someone have said?
Zeb - welcome & good luck. It can be fun going back to 'school' when you're a bit more mature and more of an equal to the staff. It does need time management so you don't neglect either family or the coursework, or even your own life. My tip was to o things early - don't leave assessments until the last minute. And since it's a management course, get a feeling for what's 'good enough' - ie choose where you put a lot of time and effort in to really excel, vs where you do enough to be in the middle of the pack.
And remember it's 'their rules'. If they're teaching something that goes against your practical experience, be sure to engage & tell them & debate why etc. But when it comes to asessments or exams, go with what they say!

Mine cancelled everything a couple of hours *after* my exam! Online learning but we're still due to go on placement on Monday.

In theory, exams and practicals keep going until the end of the week here, but students have the option not to come in for those, so 2/5 of my Friday practical have already cancelled. It's eerily quiet on campus.

In the end 7 of 36 turned up. Pretty much the absolute minimum needed. Now I have student emails coming out of my ears, either needing extensions due to issues accessing things, or those who are clearly really bored and trying to get on with the next assessment before the last one has closed. I'm trying my best to be empathetic to all, but sometimes, ARRRGGGHHH!
Hope everyone in here is doing OK.
