Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Essay plan not added to anymore but plan on doing so tomorrow. The content is more difficult. I have to coach someone my junior to do 'a task'

Bearing in mind this is only my second ward placement and it's a quick turnaround ward I don't hold out much hope. I think most of the HCA are better than me. I'm trying not to judge too much but I'm not enjoying it. I am poorly with this awful cold but I am literally exhausted and today is only my second shift with a day off inbetween! July is a very long way away.

I need to find something to coach a junior to do that I don't need them to reach me!

Perhaps turn it around EB. Get them to teach you something and write about it as if you taught them?

Does it have to be a nursing task? Can it be something related? Does it have to be something they can't do?

EB, isn't your base area very specialist? Can you do a session to the HCA's on that? Things to look for? How to refer? Or a skill from that area they may not have seen before?

I don't have a base area just placements. Where I am it's essentially anything/anyone being admitted to hospital for observation so can be quite diverse, some acute some chronic.

Grast_girl unfortunately I can't really turn it around, I have to do the essay on me coaching someone else and researching all different coaching techniques etc. I will find something I guess it's just what. All the HCA's are really good that's my biggest problem which is a very nice problem to have! I'm hoping there maybe a first year student I can coach to do observations maybe.

That's a good idea EB. Even if you don't find a student, you could always ask someone else if they could pretend to need coaching in a task and act it with you for the purposes of the essay.

I spent 5 hours on my essay earlier. It's been a long time since I got into being able to concentrate and think like that.

Wow Carp I can barely concentrate for a couple of hours never mind 5!

Yeah 1S2F unfortunately the way this apprenticeship works is I had to hand in my notice and sign a new contract for the apprenticeship. I am guaranteed a job in the trust but I don't have to take it which is a bonus as I want to go back to my specialised field so I will be able to move if I need to. Atm we were advised the jobs would have been advertised by now and we're still waiting. One girl has already secured a position with a different trust because we haven't been told where the vacancies are or if we'll even have a choice of where we'll go. Another friend is applying for a position she's been told is coming up next week. I'm researching different trusts and places to live incase things don't work out the way I want them to. I talked to CUH on Tuesday and was asked to leave my details as they are only just going to start employing the new band 4's. Told them where I want to work and my experience. I've even gone to the extreme of looking at private hospitals which will be my very last option.

Stats help please. My current module is on evaluating research evidence, so we have to learn how to interpret statistics. But my brain is not mathematical and is actually turning off as soon as I start reading - i can read the words but they just don't make any sense. We have suggested some youtube videos but I just can't.. I need an easy peasy way to read what is statistically significant ( i think I get the p thing). I have a 2000 word paper due in 10 days on a paper that they have given us

I have a book called something like Statistics without Tears. I haven't read it so no idea if it's any good, but could post it to you (but not before Tues, sorry). I am quite mathmatical and am in a discipline that isn't, so I'm the king in the land of the blind.
