Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

HP - for us, the practicals go on, but will either have an online equivalent, or be caught up later (if the practicals skills are the point).

Doc M, my niece at UCL has gone home to Poland for at least 3 weeks as everything on line. Also she has been sharing a flat with someone who is Covid paranoid and it is driving them all mad. Can't see her coming back this term really.

Pestomum?
I currently have 4 of mine at various uni's.

Eldest (Newcastle - maths)all online teaching, arranged in July, but still expected to be in Newcastle, in Halls.

Middle Two (Homerton, Cambridge - one maths, one Nat. Sciences) online lectures, in person tutorials and practicals. Staying in college, but in assigned "bubbles".

Youngest of the bunch: Warwick (Biomedical science) was supposed to be in person practicals and labs, online lectures, but a flatmate tested positive, so they're in 14 day isolation :-/

I would so much rather that they'd all had online learning decided on from July.

Bloody hell pesto you must be a flippin’ millionaire. 4 at Uni all at the same time? It can’t be easy having all away from home at a time like this either.

QP continues to only communicate when he ‘needs’ something and always ASAP. On the plus side he has mostly needed me to sign consent for climbing wall related activities. At least I know he’s doing something other than sitting about the flat. I’m beginning to miss him - he’s been gone for 5.5 weeks and should have been home this week.

Cstar my son at UCL has not bothered going in. Very happy studying in his bedroom and seems to have made plenty of friends who has no idea where in the world they are as it doesn't matter.

His twin who has the unintended gap year has got some casual work and joined local.hockey club. He has heard some grim tales from his friends who are in halls.

Eldest is all on line in York ( no idea how they are doing electronic practicals on line). He has a small student house who have clubbed together to buy a drum kit and have now formed a band.

You gets contacted me today from uni. Her flatmate, the only one who is mixing with other flats and people, reported feeling unwell this morning and has booked a Covid test. So now all 6 others in the flat have to stay in. She’s angry and upset as she’ll have to miss her first dance classes, having got onto the uni 1st teams, and will miss all her workshop classes. It’s so frustrating that you can work hard to avoid it then be let down by one person. Her room is not the best place to be stuck for two weeks and the kitchen has a small breakfast bar with only a few stools.

He’s feeling a better now so crossing fingers the test will be negative and they’ll be let out.

@halfpint, not at all :-) I’m a disabled single mum on benefits. They get to borrow the full whack from student finance.

That’s so unfair Meglet. Fingers crossed it’s negative.

I’ve just had a text from QP asking how to make a certain pasta dish. He’s only just making dinner. I’m ridiculously pleased to hear from him. I was just thinking I wanted to check in on him but don’t want to smother him.
